“As every year, we are excited to share our experienced and qualified expedition team for the upcoming 2019 season in Alaska & British Columbia. The strength of the group lies in the combination of academic passion, old-school experience, and local knowledge that they bring to the cruise schedule,” said Robin West, vice president of Expedition Operations for Seabourn. “This season’s expedition team will not only join the guests on Ventures outings, but will add to the on board experience of Seabourn Sojourn with complimentary lectures on their fields of expertise including marine biology, geology, ornithology and history. They’ll further be available at every turn to point out wildlife, join guests for dinner, and answer questions around the ship about the wild and pristine wonders that draw them – and our guests – back year after year.”

Also part of the Seabourn Conversations program, the expedition team members regularly interact with guests throughout each sailing, sharing keen insight and in-depth knowledge about the history, ecology and culture of the region. Their valuable insights are offered both in complimentary formal presentations on a variety of topics and in more casual conversations over meals or at leisure. In addition, the team chronicles their adventures with stories and photos via Seabourn’s Ventures Tracker

McArthurGlen to open the first luxury designer outlet to the west of Paris

McArthurGlen to open the first luxury designer outlet to the west of Paris

mcarthurglen-designer-outlet-normandie

LONDON and PARIS, 26th November 2018 - McArthurGlen, Europe’s leading owner, developer and manager of designer outlets, announced today that following over twenty years in planning, the group has obtained final approval for the first and only luxury designer outlet in the western Paris area.

Scheduled to open in 2021, this €150 million development in Normandie will become McArthurGlen’s fourth designer outlet in France and the 27th in the group’s portfolio, spanning 20,000 sq m of retail space with 100 stores and seven restaurants. Once open, Designer Outlet Normandie will create over 600 jobs for the local community and is expected to attract 2.5 million visitors every year.

Mike Natas, Joint Managing Director of Development at McArthurGlen said: “We are delighted that we will finally make this development a reality. We hope that this project will be a source of great pride both for the Normandie Region and McArthurGlen.”

McArthurGlen is an established partner to the world’s best-known brands, including Armani, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Levi’s, Nike, Prada, Polo Ralph Lauren, Puma, Tod's, Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino and Versace. When Designer Outlet Normandie opens in 2021 it will be home to sought-after international and French luxury, premium and lifestyle brands.

Natas continued, “There is strong appetite for a designer outlet in the western Paris area, and our brand partners are particularly excited about the tourism potential of this location. The centre’s proximity to a leading fashion capital, coupled with an affluent, fashion conscious local catchment, offers huge potential.”

Located less than an hour from the heart of Paris, one of the world’s most visited destinations, Normandie will become a leading attraction for the 18 million tourists who visit the French capital every year. It is near Giverny, where the famous home of Impressionist painter Claude Monet is located, making it one of the most prestigious cultural and tourist sites in France. McArthurGlen’s dedicated tourism team, which has bases in over 15 long haul tourist markets such as China, Russia and Korea, will work on a local, regional and international level to promote Normandie as a day-out and weekend destination to visitor groups.

In addition to curating an exciting brand mix, Normandie will host a unique Artisan’s village, known in French as a “Maison des Métiers d’Art”, promoting the savoir-faire of French crafts and artisanship. This will include exhibition sales space, workshops and studios for craftspeople, helping to nurture young businesses by showcasing and selling their original works. McArthurGlen will work in close collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (The CCI), the Chamber of Crafts and Artisanship of the Eure (The CMA) and the French National Institute of Crafts (The INMA) to establish the Maison des Métiers d’Art, making the centre a unique destination.

McArthurGlen has partnered with architects Arte Charpentier for the project. The design of the centre will be contemporary while reflecting the beautiful local landscape with striking living walls, and it has been designed to conform with the highest environmental green building specifications, and an ‘Excellent’ HQE (High Environmental Quality) certificate.

The group will continue to work in partnership with the SNA (Seine Normandie Agglomération), and the city of Vernon and the town of Douains, who are long-standing supporters of this project.

Normandie follows the successful arrival of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Provence, which opened in April 2017, with key international luxury and premium brands including Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as leading French brands L’Oréal, Maje, Sandro, The Kooples and Zadig & Voltaire. Le Printemps, the iconic French department store, opened its first-ever outlet location at the centre in November 2017.

Provence now welcomes 2.5 million visitors and employs 700 people from the local community. Recognising its success, the centre has received three industry accolades including ‘Best Outlet Development’ at the 2018 CNCC Shopping Centre Awards, a global prize for exterior design in the recent Prix de Versailles architectural awards and a ‘New Development’ commendation in the 2018 International Council of Shopping Centres’ European Awards.

McArthurGlen – Crafting Christmas with Clym Evernden

McArthurGlen – Crafting Christmas with Clym Evernden

We talk imagination and illustration with the man behind the unique handcrafted illustrations of our Christmas campaign.

Words by The Insider

We’re delighted to have teamed up with award-winning artist, Clym Evernden in a special series of hand-drawn illustrations that celebrate the spirit of our outlets with his signature ink-based style.

For Christmas, Clym puts his own unique creative spin on the traditions of the season, bringing our logo to life with a bold bow and illustrative text that harnesses the magic of the season. The Insider team met with Clym to find out more on his inspiration, his artistic process and his signature Instagram folded stories.

Meet Clym Evernden

Clym’s signature ink-based style has earned him an array of accolades and collaborations with some of the world’s most famous brands. See it all on his Instagram @clymdraws. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Clym studied BA Fashion Design Womenswear prior to working solely as an artist. Clym’s work instantly presents a narrative to the viewer, whether it be a specific style, atmosphere, or wit, with effortless clarity - making him an in demand and indispensable collaborator. This year Clym redesigned the bottle and box of the inaugural Colonia by Acqua di Parma, marking the company’s first ever ‘Artist Edition’ fragrance.

It all begins with imagination…

"For me the artistic process has to happen in a natural way. Depending on the project, I generally use part active research, and part imagination. I like to sketch during the journey of creating ideas, often these early spontaneous and imaginative drawings are reproduced in the final work as they retain the initial spark and soul of the project. If I’m working on an animation or folded story, mapping out each scene as a storyboard is an essential part of the process to help visualise the work, both for me and the client." Discover how Clym brings each unique illustration to life, from initial sketch to final masterpiece in our video.

Stories that unfold before your eyes

Using Instagram as his platform, Clym shares hand drawn illustrations that ‘move’ on a single piece of paper as it unfolds, creating an animated story with an element of magic. "I started creating ‘Folded Story’s’ as an experiment on Instagram. I had been making a lot of hand drawn animations and gifs, and I remember wanting to find a way of making a drawing ‘move’ on a single piece of paper without CGI. My first ever Folded Story was an adaptation of the story ’The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe’. This worked well because the first scene of the two sides of the folded paper opening leant themselves perfectly to a wardrobe opening, and revealing a hidden world. I always try and introduce this spirit of a surprise reveal and magic in my Folded Story's."
