United Airlines Announces Fleet Update

CHICAGO, July 16, 2018 - United Airlines (UAL) today announced orders to purchase 25 new Embraer E-175 and 4 new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. United expects to take delivery of the Embraer E-175 aircraft in 2019 and expects to take delivery of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft in 2020.

The 25 new E-175 aircraft will replace 25 CRJ-700 aircraft currently being flown by our United Express partners. These new E-175 purchases will allow United to offer a more comfortable and efficient aircraft to its customers.

The new 787-9 aircraft are part of United's widebody fleet replacement strategy. The 787-9 is the longest-range version of the aircraft, while using 20 percent less fuel than older-generation aircraft. It will offer the airline's all-new United Polaris business class seats and other modern amenities to provide a superior onboard experience to United's customers.

"These new 787 aircraft are another step in our widebody replacement strategy, and we will continue to roll out new announcements in the future as we implement our comprehensive fleet plan," said Gerry Laderman, United's senior vice president of finance and acting chief financial officer. "The new E-175 aircraft will provide our customers with a superior product that offers the latest in onboard amenities and comfort and will be a terrific addition to our fleet."

Today's announcement does not change UAL's previous adjusted capital expenditure guidance. The company will continue to evaluate opportunities to purchase used aircraft.

Aeroflot retains title as Europe’s Leading Airline at the World Travel Awards

Aeroflot retains title as Europe’s Leading Airline at the World Travel Awards

Moscow, 2 July 2018 – For the second year in a row Aeroflot has won two categories at the prestigious World Travel Awards: Europe’s Leading Airline and Europe’s Leading Airline – Business Class. In addition, this year for the first time Aeroflot took the title of Europe’s Leading Airline to Asia.

Known unofficially as the Oscars of the tourism industry, the World Travel Awards for Europe took place on 30 June at the Zappeion Megaron Hall in Athens, one of the main attractions in the Greek capital.

The World Travel Awards honour leading representatives of the travel, hospitality and civil aviation industries. Throughout the year, prizes are awarded on a regional, national and global level. Winners are determined via online voting, with hundreds of thousands of professionals and millions of travellers taking part. The main criteria for evaluation are product quality and level of service.

The World Travel Award for Europe’s Leading Airline was established last year and was immediately awarded to Aeroflot, which took the prize again this year. This confirms the position of Russia’s flag carrier as a leading global airline in terms of quality of service and the degree of comfort afforded by its business class.

In addition, Aeroflot received recognition as the leading airline for transit between Europe and Asia. In the battle for the title as the leading European airline on this transcontinental route, considered among the most competitive in global aviation, Aeroflot has eclipsed one of the most influential global air carriers, British Airways.

Aeroflot CEO Aeroflot Vitaly Saveliev commented: “Our victory in three prestigious categories in the World Travel Awards is a remarkable result, and a confirmation of our position amongst the elite of the global industry. We are proud of all the prizes that we have received, and particularly of the new title of Europe’s Leading Airline to Asia. Transit between Europe and Asia is one of the most free and competitive routes in the air travel market. You can only win in this category if you have powerful potential and a strong will, as there is no external support. Further development of this market will continue to be one of the main drivers of growth for Aeroflot. We are making the world more accessible for Russians. But Russia, her economic potential, cultural values and natural beauty are now also more open and accessible for the whole world.”

It is not the first time this year that Aeroflot has confirmed its position as one of Europe’s leading airlines. The carrier was recognised as the leading European airline for the second year in a row by users of TripAdvisor, the largest travel site worldwide. Based on the opinions of TripAdvisor users, Aeroflot received the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award as the leading major airline in Europe, and in a further three categories: Travellers’ Choice Award Premium Economy in Europe, Best Business Class in Europe and Best Airline in Russia.

Aeroflot takes delivery of its 45th Sukhoi Superjet 100

Moscow, 4 July 2018 - Aeroflot has taken delivery of its 45th Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100). The aircraft, with the registration number RA-89113, is named in honour of the legendary Soviet pilot Alexey Maresyev. The Russian-built Sukhoi Superjet 100 is configured with 12 seats in business class and 75 seats in economy class. The new SSJ100 will start operating on Aeroflot routes in the coming weeks.

The name Alexey Maresyev is inscribed in Russian history thanks to the courage shown by the pilot during the Great Patriotic War. As a result of a serious injury received on the front, A.Maresyev had both his legs amputated, but the legendary pilot returned to the front and continued to fight bravely for Russia. For his services he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. His example became the prototype for the main character of "The Story of a Real Man" by Boris Polevoy.

Aeroflot understands the importance of supporting Russian manufacturing and is currently the largest operator of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. The airline plans to expand its fleet of SSJ 100 aircraft, bringing the total number to 50.
